I can't believe I'm standing on my scale, and I see the numbers that are actually showing up, it's only been four weeks how is this even possible or even happening? My semester reflection will focus on research, ownership, and set pieces I also revised the WIX website and WP2. Doing this research helped me understand that diets are very different from one another, and not all of them go as planned or work as well as the other ones. Things that we discussed in class to help me prepare was to get an app that can help me record my diet and what I was putting into my body and what I was doing to help get it out as well, in terms of calories and exercise, to benefit and track it for me as well. I took notes in the MyPlate app in the apple store, it helped me decide on what I wanted to write about on how easy it was to track calories in this world, and how easy it was to see how many calories you burned, and all of the nutrients that you have eaten in a single day.
For my semester topic and my immersion experience, I went on an intermittent fasting diet. During my diet, I learned to discover, explore, and analyze what it means to stay on a strict diet and how beneficial it is to lose weight, especially in college when it is so easy to gain weight, and to understand how hard or easy it is for some people to go through with the diet and to lose weight. I selected this as my course immersion experience because I am interested in health and a healthy lifestyle, and the best possible diet for weight loss and to gain muscle mass at the same time. To prepare, I was going to start a diet anyways, and I did not know which one to do, so I thought which one could be the best for my budget, and kind of easy so I do not have to be miserable as I do the diet as well. I watched a lot of youtube videos, as well as talked to other people who have done other types of diets and which ones to avoid.
I showed ownership on my project by focusing on my health after I did the diet, and how it benefitted me to lose the weight that I lost, not only in a health standpoint but in a personal standpoint as well, because it helped with my self-esteem, and also made me look better to lose a couple of pounds. I opened the article with dialogue, I chose to do it with dialogue because with a diet I did not have much trouble, and I thought it would be easier to do dialogue. For the narrative portion, I focused on the things I had to eat or chose to eat, and how I was recording my weight as well as the food and nutrients I put in my body. Also, for my narrative portion, I chose to write the foods I was eating to give a perspective and to help others on what to eat.
The set pieces helped to discuss what I was actually doing and to describe the diet in better detail with experts or physicians talking about their own studies, and what they found with people who did the diet, on of them which is Jason Fung who wrote a book about the diet called the Obesity Code, and how to properly to the diet, and describe how it actually works in the body and how it benefits us losing weight, and he is also in the documentary Fasting, which describes and tells other peoples experiences with the diet. During peer review of the narrative, I helped my peers on how to give more details about the actual setting of their immersion experience, and also I helped them with giving more details on the people that they met, as well as more dialogue for their immersion experience. Reading Percy’s essay helped me by transitioning paragraphs, and not having to worry about making sure that it sounds right, just moving on with the experience and not looking back, such as going back in time and describing instances, history of what it is about, and dialogue. Also, to help me start in Medias Res, it comes from Unbranded when the guy gets kicked in the face by the horse, which makes you get hooked in the movie or writing in seconds.
